Life Is Good (Even When It's Not)

I ran across an old friend,
He wants to know, how’s everything with me.
Well, on a scale of one to ten
I’d be hard-pressed to score above a “3”.
Don’t get me started,
Unless you have have at least an hour to spare.
Then he got an ear-full
Of helpless, hopeless, doom and deep despair.
As we parted company
I noticed how the smile had left his face.
And the dance in his step
As he walked away, was gone without a trace.
That got me thinking,
There must be something better I can spread.
So I turned my eyes to Heaven
And somewhere, a voice inside me said,
I’ve got bread in the oven,
Love in my wife and family.
I’ve got steam in the shower
Kilowatts to power me in luxury.
I’ve got water in the plumbin',
Brighter days to come and that’s not all I’ve got
I’ve got God in me and coffee in the pot.
Life is good.
Even when it’s not.
There’s storm clouds above me
And shards of broken glass beneath my feet.
No matter how I try,
I can’t avoid the potholes in my street.
There’s foxes in my hen house
And a hundred hungry heifers in my corn.
These bees in my bonnet
Make me curse the day that I was born.
The flood water's rising
Faster than the sandbags that I stack.
There’s flies in the ointment,
And I can’t get this monkey off my back.
I turn on the news,
Don’t you just love the irony?
In a scene of devastation,
It’s through a stranger’s tears I finally see.
I’ve got bread in the oven,
Love in my wife and family.
I’ve got steam in the shower
Kilowatts to power me in luxury.
I’ve got water in the plumbin',
Brighter days to come and that’s not all I’ve got
I’ve got God in me and coffee in the pot.
Life is good.
Even when it’s not.
Yeah, life is good.
Even when it’s not.
